Rent Hack: Dalmatian Print Feature Wall

So a big trend happening at the moment is dalmatian print. It’s on clothes, furnishings and now walls too! If you would like to know how to get a dalmatian print feature wall for less than a fiver and totally rent friendly, then keep reading!

It’s without a doubt I jumped on this trend as it’s bang on my style, black and white! Though I couldn’t go ahead and paint black spots all over my rented walls, I did however come up with a way to get this look without damaging my walls. Did I also mention it cost me less than a fiver?!

I know it’s more than possible to buy pre-made stickers to create this look, but me being as stingy as I am, I just didn’t want to spend more than I had to!

For starters, this is what you will need:

  • DC Fix sticky back plastic/contact paper in Matt Black
  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Scissors

So first things first, you’re going to want to make your templates, or you can freehand! I drew out 5 or 6 different shapes that I wanted to repeat to add a little uniformity to it.

Then I went ahead and cut them all out. I was sure to keep the same shapes in separate piles to make it easier when I put it up on the wall.

Next, you’re ready to get stuck in! Let your creativity loose, and have fun with this next bit. But if you’re a bit like me, and you overthink these things, then I have a step by step to make it even easier for you!

First, take the biggest dalmatian spot, and we’re going to spread this one out across the whole wall area like so:

Next, you pick the next biggest spot and repeat. I did them in similar placements to the first spot, but only roughly:

I repeated this process, applying the spots, one set at a time, to ensure all sizes and shapes are spread across.

Doing it this way also allows you to not add too much, as you can keep stepping back to gauge whether its’s enough or not. What’s also useful is that you can peel off and re-stick each spot if it doesn’t look quite right, and they don’t lose their stick!

I ended up with this overall:

The best thing about this is you can have a different look by using different shaped spots, or different sizes, or even by using more spots! You don’t even need to do dalmatian print, you could go wild and go for triangles or squares or circles.

Here’s a little GIF from beginning to end!

I love this look, and I hope you do too! A top tip when removing, just to be extra safe for the paint, is to heat each sticker with a hairdryer before you peel them, should make them easier to peel off.
